It’s a great time to be Psychotronic!

TONIGHT, November 23rd, we are THRILLED to present the most talked about horror film of the year - the Intense, Freaky Shocker V/H/S!

This film was just released a few weeks ago and is only playing in select cities across the USA, and we’re one of them!

Rolling Stone calls V/H/S “the scariest, rawest horror film in years,” and Fangoria Magazine called it “the best horror movie of the year.”

This unusual anthology featuring six short films, each directed by one of today’s rising star filmmakers on the horror scene, and all connected conceptually.

THE PLOT: When a group of petty criminals is hired by a mysterious party to retrieve a rare piece of found footage from a rundown house in the middle of nowhere, they soon realize that the job isn’t going to be as easy as they thought. In the living room, a lifeless body holds court before a hub of old television sets, surrounded by stacks upon stacks of VHS tapes. As they search for the right one, they are treated to a seemingly endless number of horrifying videos, each stranger than the last.

Here’s the trailer.

We’ll show the movie ONE-TIME-ONLY: TONITE at MIDNITE.

PLEASE SPREAD THIS INFO WITH YOUR FRIENDS AND HELP US PACK THE HOUSE FOR THIS EXCLUSIVE ENGAGEMENT!

It’s a great week to be Psychotronic!

This Sunday night, September 23rd, we are THRILLED to present the VISUALLY STUNNING, SPIRITUALLY INVIGORATING and UNIVERSALLY ACCLAIMED Modern Dance Documentary/Performance Film PINA (2011, Germany), directed by the legendary filmmaker (PARIS, TEXAS, WINGS OF DESIRE, etc…) WIM WENDERS.

Don’t know anything about the world of Modern Dance?

Fear not - even those completely unfamiliar with that art form will find this movie MESMERIZING and AWE-INSPIRING.

Simply put, it’s an ABSOLUTE MUST-SEE for fans of adventurous cinema!

Here’s the trailer.

We dare anyone to watch it and not want to see the entire film…  :)

NOTE: The trailer mentions this film being in 3-D. Please be aware that it was also released in 2-D, and that’s the version we’re showing - so that folks with vision problems can still enjoy the movie (the 2-D version is mind-blowing on its own).

We’ll show the movie 3 times on One-Day-Only: at 2PM, 5PM and 8PM.

We think we’re gonna have a really big crowd for this Oscar-nominated film, so please click on the times above to securely charge advance tickets online (they’ll be held under your name at the door).

Those advance tix cost just $12 each - which includes a donation to our friends at the upcoming Savannah Dance Festival.

As always, tickets will also be available at the door for just $8 each - and if you’d still like to support to the Savannah Dance Festival, they’ll be accepting cash donations all day long at Muse.

PLEASE SPREAD THIS INFO WITH YOUR FRIENDS AND HELP US PACK THE HOUSE FOR ALL 3 SHOWS!

———————————

We’ve got other great film events coming up over the next few weeks as well - including our COMPLETELY AWESOME ALFRED HITCHCOCK WEEKEND at the LUCAS THEATRE on September 28-29.

We’re screening VERTIGO on Friday night the 28th and NOTORIOUS plus a Special Mystery Film Directed by Hitch (that WE WILL NOT IDENTIFY until the moment it hits the screen) on Saturday.

Plus, we’ve got a CAN’T-MISS MIDNIGHT SCREENING for Horror Fanatics on Friday night the 28th at Muse Arts Warehouse (after VERTIGO at the Lucas) - the RESTORED, DEFINITIVE VERSION of director George A. Romero’s PIONEERING ZOMBIE APOCALYPSE CLASSIC, 1968’s original NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD!

Just $10 gets you in.

If you’ve never seen the movie that literally jump-started the entire wave of modern zombie movies - PLUS actually outraged so many parents and film critics that it DIRECTLY CAUSED THE CREATION OF THE MPAA RATINGS SYSTEM - or, if you’ve only seen blurry, poor-quality copies on TV, VHS or DVD over the years, YOU OWE IT TO YOURSELF to see it the way it was MEANT to be seen: LATE AT NIGHT ON THE BIG SCREEN IN A ROOM FILLED WITH RESPECTFUL FRIENDS AND STRANGERS.

Check out the original theatrical trailer here.

That screening takes place just a few hours after VERTIGO, and if you show your ticket stub from that Hitchcock film, you’ll get into NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD for half-price!

Thanks for supporting our kooky and almost hopelessly ambitious efforts.  :)

*** NOTE: This Film Screens 3 Times - at 2pm, 5pm & 8pm ***

The Psychotronic Film Society of Savannah continues its Summer Series of “Movies Savannah Missed” with a special, one-day-only engagement of this sexy, edgy and very fun Norwegian crime thriller that’s taking audiences by storm all over the world.

Once more, the PFS of SAV brings you one of the year’s hottest and most talked-about foreign films - during their first domestic theatrical release.

Called the most intriguing Norwegian film since the original GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO TRILOGY (this movie was actually made by the same team responsible for that internationally celebrated saga), HEADHUNTERS is a clever, intelligent, humorous and gripping action-crime-thriller that’s DAZZLING audiences worldwide and earning AMAZING reviews from the top film critics.

Poster art for the film

THE PLOT: an employment “headhunter” risks everything to obtain a rare painting from a former mercenary. Filled with unexpected twists, impressive performances and stunningly choreographed action sequences, this tightly-wound, adult-oriented suspense flick also packs no small amount of edgy humor.

If you’re a fan of heist/caper movies or sexy, violent rollercoaster rides, this is THE movie to see this year. It’s based on the international best-selling novel by cult Norwegian author JO NESBO.

Hollywood is ALREADY remaking it (produced by and starring, ahem, MARK WAHLBERG) – so don’t miss your chance to see the original version now in its extremely limited U.S. Art-House Cinema Release!

IN NORWEGIAN WITH ENGLISH SUBTITLES.

In appreciation for area cinema fans voting the Psychotronic Film Society the BEST LOCAL FILM SERIES and naming Muse Arts Warehouse the BEST LOCAL INDIE FILM VENUE in the 2012 Connect Savannah Best Of Savannah Poll, this Saturday, June 2, we’re throwing a FREE DOUBLE-FEATURE of highly entertaining CULT CLASSICS!

Come be our guest for two unforgettable independent films from the glory days of the Drive-In and Grindhouse theater circuits…

First up, at 5 p.m. is the infamous zero-budget “shocker” from 1966,

THE CURSE OF THE SWAMP CREATURE.

The Swamp Creature!

Directed by esteemed, D-Grade director Larry Buchanan (who also gave us the so-bad-they’re-great gems COMMON LAW WIFE, ZONTAR: THE THING FROM VENUS and MARS NEEDS WOMEN), this hilariously awful monster flick was shot in rural Texas and stars John Agar (TARANTULA, THE BRAIN FROM PLANET AROUS, ATTACK OF THE PUPPET PEOPLE, THE AMAZING MR. NO LEGS) and Francine York (THE DOLL SQUAD, FUTURE COP, TV’s HOT IN CLEVELAND). It’s filled with horrible acting, ridiculous dialog, and abysmally bad “special effects.”

The Plot: A mad scientist is conducting experiments on the local swamp people in an attempt to discover the secret of evolution. When a party of oil surveyors comes upon his isolated laboratory he decides to take the final step and turn one of them into a grotesque amphibious creature.

Here’s a short clip from the film to get an idea of just how silly this whole thing is:

________________________________________________________________

Then, at 8 p.m., it’s Roger Corman’s beloved 1979 musical exploitation farce
ROCK ‘N’ ROLL HIGH SCHOOL, starring punk icons THE RAMONES!

Rock & Roll High School, baby!

Simultaneously a brilliant and perceptive parody of 1950s and 1960s “rock and roll” movies, and a gloriously subversive piece of counterculture propaganda, it’s a slapstick comedy that’s also filled with blisteringly intense live concert performances, surreal imagery, anti-authoritarian messages and a cavalcade of cult actors and actresses hamming it up (including Mary Woronov of EATING RAOUL, P.J. Soles of HALLOWEEN, Clint Howard of STAR TREK and NIGHT SHIFT, Paul Bartel of SCENES FROM THE CLASS STRUGGLE IN BEVERLY HILLS, and Vincent Van Patten of, well, the Van Patten family.

See it as it was meant to be seen – Uncut and Widescreen in a theater!

Here’s the original trailer:
